I live on 16th ave just 1 block from Alberta. I'd like to get together with other neighbors that want to make their homes open during Last Thursday as little party spots or something maybe as little art galleries or food galleries or whatever you want. Sort of like mini theme camps but in houses....is there interest in this?

Re: A revisioning of Neighbors
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 2:59 PMI live on 14th Place near the Tin Shed and Fuel Cafe. Been here for 6 1/2 years now.
I think this is a great idea....but to be honest I'm not willing to do this in my own home. While I freely open my home to friends and my personal community I'm not sure I want the general public wandering around in my house. That's just a personal preference but it seems like it opens you up to the potential of problems including frivolous lawsuits and theft. Commercial venues such as storefronts and art galleries don't provide the same kind of temptation for things like that.
Just a thought.
That said - I'd stop by and hangout with you at your house any time.:) Or any other neighborhood gathering. -

strangers in your house & suggestions
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 11:56 PMgood point about openning up your house!
i had a party while in college (well, several) and at one particular one with lots of strangers, a painting of mine and my answering machine got ripped off! oh well. i hope they still like the painting.
stores like me do have insurance and we do worry about taking care of lots of people on last thursday (including issues of theft and serving alcohol). i usually have an extra person around for things like that.
you should try it....for sure..and see how it feels.
keep it focused! don't try to do 6 different things at once!
it will give people reason for showing up, and miraculously, the right kinds of people will wonder in the door. true words!

Tue, October 30, 2007 - 2:52 PMLinda Austin of Performance Works Northwest sponsored a set of house performances last year. Intimate performance art pieces in homes. You had to reserve a place in advance. Might be in an interesting twist

Re: A revisioning of Neighbors
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 12:10 PMMight be nice for my lady and I to stop in and say hi....I think the next "Last Thursday" is the first one where we will participate in showing our crafts......we're always looking to meet other cool peeps. And from the looks of this thread, we'd better write down people's locations!
Food gallery.......what a cool idea!
Might be interested in participating in that kinda thing after the new year.
